Ane of the best roasts we've always had. No changes, no substitutions and tweaking required. Information technology really bugs me when people totally change a recipe. I don't even read long boring reviews. If y'all don't like the recipe, then but make up a new one and submit information technology.
02/21/2002
I accept tried cooking pot roasts in a tedious cooker before and there was either non enough liquid or the vegetables were as well difficult. This was perfect. I did apply Chuck pot roast instead and didn't add the light-green peppers because of a petty i. DH Loved this repast, next time I will add together the peppers. The meat was tender just used a fork to serve! Keeping this to use over again for certain.

As another reviewer suggested subbed beer for water. Also, I prefer red peppers to green. I roasted this dish in the oven as follows: Placed veggies in roasting pan; pour goop mixture over veggies. Rub meat with plenty of garlic, common salt, pepper & paprika. Place meat directly on tiptop of veggies. Meat should not rest in liquid. (Another option, place beef in another pan along side of veggies/broth.) Roast in an open pan until meat thermo. reads 150*, ordinarily 45 to threescore minutes. Remove meat merely to platter; cover with foil to "residue" ten min. until internal temp. reaches medium at 155*. Return veggies to oven with increased temp. to 425* with ruby pepper added at this time. Bake until veggies are tender & lightly browned, approx. xx min. Exist careful not to dry out out the veggies, esp. the potatoes. It may take a bit of experimenting to get them to your desired doneness. Meat is best sliced thin across the grain. It is tender & flavorful if non overcooked. Serve with sauce spooned over slice beefiness & veggies. Makes a not bad leftover beef sandwich the next day. I take been known to warm leftover beef in bar-b-que sauce for sandwiches the following day. Cook one time but eat twice as a different meal is my favorite way to cook! Highly recommend this meal.

Spectacular! I like to add a tin can of cream of mushroom soup (no water added) to the crock right at the beginning. Afterwards thicken with a flour or corn starch mixture and add together a footling gravy magic for flavor. Makes a succulent gravy. For those who are proverb the meat was tough... use a quality pot roast cut and make sure you allow the meat melt the entire fourth dimension stated. You cannot go incorrect with this recipe.
02/22/2009
Very succulent.
12/25/2007
Very succulent. I didn't have any beefiness boullion so i used beef gravy mix instead and information technology came out great.
10/19/2005
This is a corking recipe, it was my showtime time using a crock pot and it came out wonderful. I added iii/four cup of ruby-red wine which I highly reccomend. I also skipped the bell peppers.
02/08/2006
This was a BIG hit! I think I must also have i of those fast cooking deadening cookers - I cooked it on high, and it was done in nether v hrs. I also put in some mushrooms instead of carrots, and used beer instead of water. This did not last long!
08/15/2002
Overall, information technology turned out great. I loved the garlic cooked in the meat. I added a bouquet garni and some celery for extra season. I too thickened the gravy a chip more. I'll definitely utilise the recipe again.
04/09/2004
I made this pot roast for my in-laws (people one ever imagines to be their greatest critics) and they loved it - even asked for the recipe! My husband loves it likewise, and it has become a one time a week menu item at our house.
01/17/2007
This is a family favorite. Non for the non-garlic lover. The good thing is anybody enjoys this and so much, everyone'southward breath will odor like garlic as much as yours. Great recipe.
04/19/2002
Smelled great, was very deadening. Two of 4 people didn't like information technology, the other ii thought it was only so-and then.
12/27/2008
I have never cooked a Pot Roast, but since it was my married man'due south birthday I took the plunge! This recipe was easy and turned out wonderfully! I also used beer instead of water and I cooked information technology in the oven uncovered for 2 hours (till 155 degrees) on 350.
11/16/2008
My family unit literally inhaled this. Neat RECIPE! Didn't change a matter and don't programme to!
02/20/2011
I fabricated this recipe with a 2-1/2 lb. chuck roast. Afterward stuffing it with the garlic cloves, I browned information technology on i side under the broiler, added the remaining ingredients and baked information technology in the oven at 350 degrees for 2-ane/2 hours covered. The meat is so tender and the gravy is so flavorful. We absolutely love this pot roast.
11/29/2008
What can I say - this is wonderful. I fabricated this today for the family and information technology was a large hit. Lots of left overs for sandwiches tomorrow too! I did not have Bay leaf and I added basil and oregano to the sauce the last half hour. There was lots of juice, and then I removed over half of it two hours before it was washed and used that to brand a brown gravy. I just threw in two packs of Schilling dark-brown gravy mix. We poured that over the meat. Those are the only changes that I made. Love this roast!
02/25/2009
Best deadening cooker pot roast I've ever had. Not tough and great flavor. I used beer instead of water as some other reviewer suggested.
11/25/2008
The meat came out too tough, even subsequently 6 hours in the slow cooker. It tasted like garlic water. Very displeased.
03/05/2003
Although this came out pretty good for pot roast, information technology was to much work in my opinion. I followed other reviewers' suggestions and browned the meat first, which I practise think helped. I also added more spices: thyme, onion powder, etc, and beefiness broth instead of water. I cooked on low eight hours & everything was done perfectly. I guess if you have lots of time in the forenoon to prepare this, then yous'll like this recipe.
10/25/2009
Sorry to say, despite following every footstep to the letter of the alphabet, I found this to be a bit on the banal side. Peradventure it was just me, but I expected and commonly enjoy a much stronger season in pot roast. I'm besides surprised it didn't include celery. I will add that next fourth dimension if I brand this once more.
10/06/2008
I accept fabricated this about 3 times now for my family. Information technology is gone in an instant! I exercise not add as much onion, only I yet put in quite a bit. I use babe ruby potatoes and bagged babe corn. This is a must in the fall and wintertime!
11/07/2007
This was the best pot roast ive always had. I used a chuck roast instead of acme sirloin, Sirloin was too expensive for our budget. Merely It turned out very flavour full. Not dry at all. Next time i will try with beer instead of water like some others suggested. My husband was in aww later we were washed eating it also!
05/11/2011
I dear crock pot recipes considering they are and then easy. This was no exception. Toss everything in and in 8 hours nosotros had a great repast. My merely concern was with the bouillon cubes, was not sure if they should be tossed in whole or disolved in the water. To be on the safety side I heated the h2o and disolved the cubes before adding them to the pot. I was also worried this might make the meal too salty simply information technology was not. I am non much of a cook so I followed the recipe; except did not have light-green peppers so I left that out and I only had minced garlic so used that instead of the cloves. Cooked information technology on low for 8 hours and the meat was and then tender it cruel apart while I was trying to go it out of the pot. This recipe is a keeper! Adjacent time I might effort others suggestions to add foam of mushroom soup or brand gravy out of the goop/sauce.
12/02/2011
Information technology was alright. Wasn't packed full of flavour or anything.
07/xix/2013
Nosotros enjoyed the flavor very much...and it was quick and easy to assemble. I didn't accept any green pepper, and so we just skipped that part. The left over broth went into the freezer for a beef soup.
xi/05/2010
This recipe is great! I used a chuck roast considering it was cheaper, and a total cup of beer (Blue Moon) in place of the beefiness broth and left out the greenish peppers. Succulent! My husband asked for it again this calendar week already, and nosotros haven't even finished the left overs yet!
12/04/2010
I Stock-still THIS FOR MY Mother WHO IS VERY HARD TO PLEASE AND SHE JUSTED RAVED HOW Proficient It WAS, SHE Fifty-fifty CAME BACK FOR SECONDS. IN FACT THE WHOLE Family LOVED THIS ONE. Thanks Then MUCH WILL Exist MAKING IT Once again Presently....
02/10/2014
WOW!!! The start time I fabricated this I made it as the recipe states and information technology was bully. The next time I made it I didn't accept potatoes to put in right abroad so I put everything else in. I allow it melt just equally stated higher up merely made mashed potatoes and let me tell you that roast was to die for. It's very juicy!!!
04/27/2011
This was ok. I prefer a bolder flavor and so to me it was rather bland.
02/22/2009
Inserting the garlic into the roast is a mistake. Either to much garlic flavor or not enough. But throw in the garlic and cook with the residuum.
03/29/2011
We loved this (minus the light-green peppers)! Next time I'll add even more garlic!!!
12/28/2006
This is a very good versatile recipe! I actually enjoyed information technology. It'southward very flavorful and tender. I highly recommend this to anyone.
02/06/2009
This was okay. I thought it would exist more flavorful. My hubby really liked information technology but next time I volition up the spices.
04/25/2008
This was wonderful! I made a couple of changes, based on preference. I used a few more veggies... fresh mushrooms & parsnips. No green peppers. I minced about half of the garlic, and tossed the raw veggies in the minced garlic, and a steakhouse seasoning spice. One can of double rich campbells beef broth (no h2o). The rest of the garlic I slivered and tucked in the meat, and seasoned the meat as directed. Veggies on the bottom, meat on the pinnacle. A splash of red wine over the elevation (about 1/2 cup). When the liquid started to submerge the roast, I tuckered some of the juice using a ladle. The roast was so tender, we could cut it with a fork. And both the veggies & the meat had a wonderful season! Thanks and then much for the recipe.
08/28/2007
This is delicious! I did season the meat and vegetables with Johnny's Seasoning Table salt (No MSG) in addition to the salt, pepper and paprika. Too, I used consomme instead of beef broth and the flavor was ever better! My hubby loves when I make this for dinner!
01/eighteen/2011
I make this all the time, even my neighbor comes over when I make information technology, he tin can smell it through the walls. :) Astonishing recipe. I wouldn't modify a thing.
07/xxx/2002
The underground to this yummy recipe is the garlic! I was very impressed at how good this was, plus information technology was then easy to prepare! My husband loved information technology too! I don't know if my crock pot gets hotter than most, but everything got done fashion before dinner fourth dimension. I removed the veggies, then put everything dorsum together right before dinner was served. I volition make this on a regular ground!
05/04/2010
This was wonderful...I permit the roast cook in my crockpot for about 6 hours on high and then added the veggies and cooked on low for another hour or so. I did thicken the sauce a little then it was more than gravy-similar. The garlic actually makes a difference! Thank you for sharing!
02/22/2009
I was looking for something to practice with left-over, defrosted, floured cubes of beef, and this was my answer! I re-floured the beef, browned it in butter and olive oil, and then proceeded with the recipe - adding a few fewer potatoes and a cup of fine red wine in addition to about 2/iii cup h2o. I didn't bother with spices, since I used many (including mustard seed) in the flour coating the beef. I only used 2 bullion cubes (1 beefiness, one veggie) and didn't bother adding the pepper at the end. We just loved the moist texture of the meat, and the flavor overall was superb. Now that I know roughly how much liquid to include, and how long to melt the meat, I'll be able to make all sorts of variations on this recipe. Thanks so much!
02/03/2001
This will be my only boring cooker pot roast from now on. It was fabled!
11/25/2006
This was good, the meat was so tender that we were able to use leftovers for great sandwiches!
11/03/2009
Very good! I added a packet of onion soup mix instead of the buillon cubes.
10/13/2010
I used all goop instead of water and it was awesome. Information technology was my first pot roast and I won't be looking for some other recipe. I forgot to put the green pepper in and it really didn't need it.
02/02/2006
Wow! What a flavorful roast! I didn't change a matter except I used minced garlic instead. Thanks for the wonderful new improver to our family unit favorites.
08/30/2009
Wow! This was just fantastic. I did add together some celery and used fresh thyme and rosemary instead of the paprika because I had it on mitt. I subbed 1 cup water with the three bullion cubes and then added iii/four c red wine. I did thicken the broth a bit with some cornstarch. Cooked information technology on low for nearly x hours because I had to start it early on. Now I've shredded what was left and poured the remaining au jus over the shreds so nosotros've got sandwiches ane night!
02/15/2011
Awesome Meal - Family of five eat every bite with a huge smile ! loved information technology !
04/16/2002
This had very proficient flavor. The meat was a little dry out for my gustation. I concluded up making a beefy onion gravy and pouring that over the meat. Information technology turned out to exist pretty practiced.
01/xiii/2002
I was so impressed with this recipe. My husband absolutely cannot stand roasts but he loved this and so much he is going to permit me make it once again. That is a first. Thank you!!!!
04/22/2012
Dandy taste...decided to make this in the oven instead as I only had a 2 pound sirloin tip roast. Omited the green peppers(had none). Cooked in the oven covered at 325F for 3 hours.Uncovered for the last xxx min and basted it occaisionally. Perfect.
ten/21/2008
This was a wonderful dinner. I did every bit some other reviewer suggested and added brown gravy mix (low sodium in my instance) instead of the beef bouillon and the sauce was wonderful. I too put the spices and the garlic in the meat 24 hours in advance and let it "marinate." My husband commented that the peppers that I added at the terminate every bit the recipe calls for were really great. Overall I am sure I volition make this again.
03/15/2009
I've tried many of the other recipes on this site for potroast, just this is The Perfect Recipe for Perfect Pot Roast. Cipher more than needs to exist said!!!
03/12/2015
I tried this recipe once before, and brought it over to friends who had only had a baby. Hubby and I had it for dinner that dark also- nosotros loved it! And our friends said it was by far the best roast they have had. I didn't relieve information technology then, only bought a peak sirloin on the weekend, and luckily I institute it over again, and information technology is cooking in the crockpot equally we speak. I didn't alter a thing. We beloved garlic, and then we add a couple more cloves. I serve it with roasted mini red potatoes and green beans w/almonds. Just perfect.
01/13/2006
This recipe was easy to make and did brand the house smell smashing. My husband liked the recipe very much. I found that the meat was very tender, but idea that it could be more flavorful. Next time I make, I will definitely add some cherry-red wine as one of the other reviewers advise.
04/07/2009
A lot of ingredients simply is is worth information technology. One of the better pot roasts I have had.
01/04/2008
This worked very well for me. I used half beef goop, half ruddy wine for the liquid and did NOT utilize bullion cubes, merely added a flake more table salt, sprinkled over the veggies, in addition to the table salt rubbed into the meat. Also, used cerise bell pepper, not dark-green and tossed the garlic cloves whole into the crock pot with the veggies rather than insert them in the meat. The best change I made was to use real Castilian smoked paprika (pimenton) rather than hungarian or other paprika. Succulent!
02/17/2005
I just gave this recipe 4 stars because I had to add some of my own spices to go far really practiced. Information technology did turn out great but I added more garlic, some oregano, and some basil towards the last 60 minutes because I thought it was rather banal. I also had to add some more beefiness base of operations in club to make gravy (I made mashed potatoes instead of the yukon gilded) In the finish, everyone had seconds and believe me, I have a very tough crowd.
02/19/2002
Mmmm. Delicious. I was skeptical virtually adding the light-green pepper, just my married man and I thought they fabricated the repast! The merely change I'll make next fourth dimension is cutting back on the salt and/or use low sodium beef burgoo.
02/24/2009
We tried this yesterday and information technology turned out wonderful. It was liked by all of us in the household. Thanks, Barry Ziegler
08/13/2010
surprisingly good!
05/xxx/2002
Wonderful! I cooked it on loftier for near seven hours. THe whole thing was fabulous.
eleven/08/2011
Delicious! My usually picky husband had three servings! The only change I fabricated was using beer instead of water (white beer). Thank you!!
12/25/2004
I believe that I may accept over-cooked this as mine came out a bit dry out. My crockpot does seem to run a little hotter than others. Great season overall, though. The vegetables turned out keen. If you're looking for a practiced stand up-by-from-scratch (no soup mixes, etc) Pot Roast recipe for the slow cooker, this is a fine one to start with and build upon! Cheers!
07/xi/2011
Yummy and tender
08/01/2009
This was excellent! The best pot roast I have e'er had. The garlic actually gives it a practiced season.
04/twenty/2008
This recipe came out perfect, I did add mushrooms. I would prefer more seasoning for extra flavour next fourth dimension.
03/21/2006
A pretty good roast recipe and it IS very simple to make. When I "infused" the roast, I did add some rosemary with the garlic and omitted the grn peppers. The results wasn't astonishing but very satisfying.
05/18/2005
Excellent! Dandy, refreshing twist to the age-old pot roast. The vegetables turned out very moist and my kids devoured them. I cooked mine in a slow cooker overnight (10 hours) with an actress i/2 loving cup of water and information technology just falls apart (terrific!). No demand to add anything to brand gravy, it is great on its ain.
ten/22/2013
Just made information technology for the starting time time and when I went to add the peppers in the final half 60 minutes, I tasted the gravy and was a little disappointed with the bland flavor and so I scooped out a few cups of the liquid, added a tablespoon of wercheshire sauce and poured it dorsum over the pot roast and vegetables. It also begged me for a handful of mushrooms and so I complied. It was fantastic! Cheers dontcookmuch.
03/08/2009
I didn't think it was over the top or annihilation, but information technology was definitely good. All the spices and broth made the potatoes the best I've always had, that is for certain! The roast was just similar any other skillful roast I've had. I will make it once again because it was super piece of cake.
01/27/2004
I would say that this recipe is average. I agree with another memeber with the sentiment of... it's just missing something...
09/25/2008
the meat was fall autonomously tender! it was really good! needed a chip more than seasoning for me. I don't remember I added enough garlic only that'south my ain fault. i didn't use straight water, i just used beef goop, a little cooking wine and three/iv bottle of shiner(information technology was all nosotros had lol) i too added onion pulverization and celery salt for more flavors. yummy!
12/18/2010
Very skillful!
02/27/2007
This recipe turned out quite tasty! My pot roasts are ordinarily missing flavor and turn out a piffling bland simply this one turned out wonderful. I notwithstanding recall it needed extra common salt but overall, very expert and worth it!
09/07/2004
This is the All-time slow cooker roast I take ever fabricated! I accept made it a couple times and everytime its perfect. I wouldn't modify a thing about this recipe. Its wonderful! Give thanks you for sharing!
12/08/2005
This was very good. The crockpot made the meat so tender--no knife needed...and how nice to come abode and the repast is already cooked! Next time, I may employ crushed garlic instead. I didn't taste much of the garlic flavoring using the slivers.
05/17/2005
FANTASTIC!!! We couldn't end eating this. I omitted the peppers because of preference but everything else went into the recipe. I will definitely be making this once again.
07/12/2007
Without a doubt, this is the best slow cooker pot roast I accept e'er made.
12/31/2004
I used this recipe equally a base for general pot roast. I added an actress bay foliage and thyme to add extra flavour, cut dorsum on the amount of garlic slices pushed into the roast and threw a couple cloves into the water to stew with the veggies. I also used my injectaflavor to inject a mixture of beef broth, thyme and garlic minced together. Husband couldn't say enough things about the roast, information technology smelled delicious all mean solar day and the gravy it made was excellent. I kept sneaking sips of the gravy in the last two hours of cooking.
08/26/2009
Very good, very easy.
04/11/2010
Great recipe. Very flavorful. Like a few of the reviewers suggested, thickened the gravy with some corn starch and added a petty kitchenbouquet for color and flavor. Delish!
09/xvi/2009
This was a very easy and satisfying repast. I substituted green beans for the potatoes, since I am trying to lower my carb intake.
01/07/2001
It was fine but not not bad. I must have done something incorrect as there was not equally much flavor equally I predictable by looking at the ingredients. I may endeavor once more as so many reviews are 4'southward and five's.
06/xv/2006
This recipe was wonderful! Actually bang-up. I did not utilize a Sirloin roast since I cook for merely 2, I simply used a rump roast, but it worked nifty. Will definitely make this again.
06/04/2010
But made this today, it was great, only thing I did was add fresh mushrooms when I added the green pepper.
03/08/2009
pretty expert stuff.. a bit to much onion & spud (overstuffs the crock).. needs a bit of extra liquid. Would really do well w/ a bit of bbq flavour in the cooker or dry rubbed on the meat as information technology'due south a touch bland.
08/26/2001
YUMMY! I am a Big critic of what I melt and I must say this is the best pot roast I've ever cooked!! This is total of flavor and very moist! Thank you, I will be passing this 1 on!
08/06/2009
This recipe was unproblematic to follow and tasted delicious!
10/31/2011
My kids liked it, I will be making this again.
12/03/2014
This was very skillful merely very salty. And I just realized I forgot the bay leaf! That'due south so unlike me! I'll brand again but volition find a manner to reduce the salt.
12/15/2008
WOW -i am so disappointed in this recipe! I followed it every bit is thinking after that I'd endeavour some of the suggestions in the comments - simply my meat was dry and some pockets tasted bland, some tasted decent and others had besides much garlic. This was a slice of beef that I cut and used half in another recipe and it was quite tender, so I don't remember it was my cutting of meat. If I endeavour it once more, I would rub with some flour and brownish it first, add together some strained tomatoes, balsamic vinegar or something to help break down the meat. It really doesn't even get another attempt from me though.
03/06/2009
ok recipe but non the comfort roast that we all like best with the cream of mushroom soup gravy, it is the all-time.
04/02/2009
Excellent recipe. I didn't use quite as much garlic as called for but information technology very tender. My family loved it.
08/28/2011
Excellent! we omitted the dark-green pepper and added some chili pulverisation and it turned out amazing! the gravy that came out was terrific and the potatoes and roast were perfect!
03/24/2002
I made this stew overnite and some friends comeover and they all loved it. I accept had better roast.. to me it was missing something?
01/fifteen/2006
Very tasty and and so easy to do...I omitted the dark-green peppers and instead of slivering the garlic, I minced it and rubbed it right onto the roast.
02/09/2015
I am not much of a roast person, but for being roast information technology was decent.
01/x/2014
Amazing! Out of all my pot roasts, this is my number ane! I loved it!
12/09/2016
Recipe looked great but mine cooked faster than expected so it was surprisingly not juicy for a irksome cooker roast. It also had no flavor even though I seasoned it over night and pan seared it. Probably will try again simply unsure what to do differently.
07/29/2010
I substituted Cajan seasoning for paprika and it was loved by my son and wife.
